TRAX Montenegro Winter
Five days of jeeps, snowmobiles, skiing, snowboarding and ATVs. White mountains, warm hospitality and the TRAX winter.
Winter does more than change Montenegro’s colour; it changes its rhythm. Forests grow quieter, summits sharper and every departure from the hotel begins another story. Kolašin is home for four nights, our base for Komovi, Bjelasica and Lipovo: five days moving between engines, skiing and walking through snow. We begin with a jeep safari like the summer journey, then enter winter fully: snowmobiles, a day to choose between skiing and snowboarding with coaching matched to ability, night snowshoeing and ATVs into local mountain life. A welcoming mountain hotel, guides who know the terrain and a group returning each evening with a new story complete the experience. Routes follow snow, weather and operator safety decisions.

Winter begins on the road
From arrival into a mountain jeep safari in the spirit of the summer journey, then on to our Kolašin base.
The journey begins not at check-in but in the jeeps. After meeting the team at the airport, we head into the mountains on a route inspired by the summer safari: scenic tracks, small villages and viewpoints around Kučka Korita where winter access allows. The road becomes a mountain trail and the window a widescreen of forest, rock and summits.
We pause for air and photographs, then continue to Kolašin. This is a guided scenic safari, not a promise of driving in deep snow: routes and stops follow arrival time, snow and safe access. We settle in for four nights at Wulfenia or Bianca Resort & Spa, subject to availability. From day one, the mountains are part of the journey, not merely its backdrop.
Snowmobile adventure in the Komovi Mountains
Four to five hours of snowmobiling between forests, white expanses and views towards the Komovi massif.
The snowmobiles are ready and the white forest opens before us. After equipment fitting and a safety briefing, we follow a local guide towards the Komovi region. Forest trails give way to open expanses, with stops where the peaks seem almost within reach. When the engines stop, winter’s silence suddenly feels tangible.
Around four to five hours outside gives us time to find the rhythm, not simply tick off an activity. Route and distance change with snow depth and weather; the team chooses safe stops and the best views available that day. We return to Kolašin with cold cheeks and energy that is hard to switch off, leaving time to recover at the hotel.
A day on the slopes, a night in the forest
A day of gliding — skiing or snowboarding, your choice — matched to ability on Bjelasica, followed by a guided evening snowshoe walk near Kolašin.
Bjelasica offers the mountain at another pace: engines stay behind while we learn to read the slope. Each guest chooses between skiing and snowboarding; a ski pass, complete equipment and clothing for the chosen discipline as specified in the package, together with a professional instructor, make room for first-timers. Beginners build foundations and confidence; experienced riders continue on guided runs across open pistes. Vranjak access and slopes depend on resort conditions.
After returning to the hotel and a pause, the snow takes on a different light. We head out on a short guided snowshoe walk through a quiet forest or suitable area near Kolašin. This is relaxed rather than demanding: space to breathe between white trees and a darkening sky. The route follows snow conditions, ending a day that has shown us two very different sides of the same mountain.
Four wheels into local life
Four to five hours of ATVs through winter landscapes and a visit to a local household in Lipovo.
Today we move to four wheels. After a briefing and equipment fitting, our guided ATV convoy explores the tracks around Kolašin. Around four to five hours of forest, mountain trails and photo stops take us towards Lipovo. Snow changes the route from day to day, so we choose terrain to enjoy safely rather than a fixed track we must complete.
In Lipovo, a local household introduces the Montenegro beyond the hotel window. Our hosts share mountain life, traditions and village stories. Depending on the hosts and season, we may also join traditional bread or pastry preparation and discover home cooking. This is a human encounter, not a photo set, giving the journey depth. We ride on and return to Kolašin for our last mountain evening.
The road home is another adventure
A farewell to the mountains through Morača Canyon, with viewpoints and scenic stops according to weather and flight time.
We pack, but are not yet finished with the landscape. Rather than a direct airport transfer, we take the scenic route through Morača Canyon. The river moves below cliffs, forest becomes rock and the road gives the journey one more discovery. We stop at safe viewpoints where road conditions, weather and flight time allow.
If time and access allow, Morača Monastery can be added as an optional cultural stop. We then continue to Podgorica Airport, with the transfer planned around the actual flight. Five days after setting out, we return with white landscapes in our photographs and a warm feeling: winter we did not simply see, but truly experienced.
